Eedi Lyydia Karjalainen

Performance, Scenography

Eedi was born in 1999 in Duisburg, Germany, to Finnish parents. She comes from both an academic and musical background, but only discovered scenography two years ago during one of her study modules whilst completing her BA Drama and Theatre Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London. Before moving to England, she attended school in the Hague and in Madrid.

Eedi's work focusses on encounters, relations, transculturalism and cultural identity, where she is now learning to explore the meaning of objects in space, as opposed to her previous focus on people in space, hopefully managing to combine the two. Inspirations, both theoretical and artistic, include Nicolas Bourriaud, Scarlett Hooft Graafland, Alvar Aalto, Zarina Bhimji and Sarah Ahmed. Eedi further takes inspiration from her home town, Hankasalmi (Finland), which she visits regularly. Nature, serenity and the creation/ formation of encounters are important themes in her thought-process and work.
